Appraisal Fees

At Studio Gemological Laboratory, appraisal fees are structured to reflect the scope, complexity, and care required for each assignment. Every piece of jewelry is evaluated individually, and pricing is designed to be fair, transparent, and appropriate to the work involved.

  • Ideal for scheduling newly purchased or existing jewelry with insurance companies. Includes full measurements, gemstone analysis, metal testing, photos, and insurer-ready valuation.

    • General items with gemstones: $100 per piece.

    • Akoya & South Sea Pearls: $120 per piece.

    • Timepieces : $120 per piece.

    • Precious metal items / items without gemstones: $75 per piece.

    • Freshwater Pearls: $75 per piece.

    • $50 per stone or $200 per hour for multiple stones.

    • Verbal identification of gems and diamonds. No grading, photos, or valuations provided. For value estimates, see verbal consultation services.

    • 2-hour minimum.

    • Available at your home, office, or secure location within the Greater Los Angeles area.

    • 1-hour minimum.

    • Ideal for purchase verification, resale advice, or sorting mixed collections of fine and costume jewelry. No written report included.

  • Item Includes full diamond or gemstone grading (as applicable), clarity assessment, measurements, high-res photography, and insurer-ready replacement valuation.description

  • Appropriate for probate, trusts, inheritance, and division of assets. Values reflect fair market or marketable cash value as required.

  • For clients evaluating potential sale or liquidation. Prices reflect realistic secondary-market conditions and buyer-to-seller pricing.

  • Gemstone identification, authenticity checks, quick verbal assessments, and guidance on buying or selling.

What Affects Fee Adjustments

Most items fall within the standard fees above. However, additional complexity may apply for:

  • Large multi-gemstone pieces

  • Antique or vintage jewelry requiring additional research

  • High-value diamonds requiring advanced testing

  • Designer pieces requiring market comparables

  • Items with missing stones, damage, or extensive wear

  • Rare or uncommon gemstones
